Ingredients

  • 2 oz blanco tequila (100% agave; Espolòn Blanco recommended)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice (about 2 medium limes; strain to remove pulp)
  • 1/2 oz agave nectar (or raw honey/stevia for ultra low-calorie)
  • 2 oz cold sparkling water or club soda (unsweetened; LaCroix Plain works well)
  • 1/4 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or skip to shave off calories)
  • Large ice cubes (slower melt for balanced dilution)
  • Flaky sea salt or Tajín (for glass rim)
  • Lime wedges and extra zest (for garnish and aroma)

Instructions

  • Place two margarita or rocks glasses in the freezer for about 10 minutes so your cocktail stays icy from the first sip.
  • Rub a lime wedge around each glass rim, then dip into flaky sea salt or Tajín for a subtle spice.
  • In a cocktail shaker, pour tequila, fresh lime juice, agave nectar, and orange liqueur (if using). Add a handful of ice cubes.
  • Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels frosty—here’s the thing: that chill and swirl make all the difference.
  • Strain into your chilled, salt-rimmed glasses over fresh ice. Tilt the shaker so you get every drop of that citrus-forward mix.
  • Gently top each glass with sparkling water or club soda, stirring once or twice to combine without losing too much carbonation.
  • Float a lime wedge on the rim, sprinkle a touch of extra zest, and hand over the glass—cheers to living your best low-calorie life!

Notes

Choose glossy-skinned limes for maximum juice; a handheld citrus squeezer makes life easier. If you prefer extra zing, zest a bit of lime peel into the shaker.
