  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil: Provides a neutral fat base for the marinade.
  • 1/4 cup sugar: Balances the acidity with sweetness.
  • 2 teaspoons salt: Enhances the flavors of the vegetables.
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper: Adds a mild heat and flavor depth.
  • 3 cucumbers peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch thick rounds: Provides crisp texture and freshness.
  • 3 tomatoes cut into wedges: Adds juiciness and acidity.
  • 1 onion sliced into rings: Contributes sharpness and a crunchy texture.

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together 1 cup water, 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons salt, and 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper until the sugar and salt are completely dissolved.
  • Add 3 sliced cucumbers, 3 cut tomatoes, and 1 sliced onion to the bowl, ensuring they are fully coated with the marinade.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, allowing the vegetables to absorb the flavors.
  • Stir the salad before serving to redistribute the marinade. Enjoy chilled.

Notes

  • Herb Additions: Add dill, basil, or parsley for extra flavor.
  • Vinegar Varieties: Try apple cider, balsamic, or rice vinegar for different flavor profiles.
  • Oil Alternatives: Substitute vegetable oil with olive oil or sesame oil for added richness.
  • Sweetness Adjustments: Use honey, agave syrup, or maple syrup instead of sugar for a different sweetness.
  • Additional Vegetables: Enhance with bell peppers, radishes, or avocado for more flavor and nutrition.
