A rich and flavorful spaghetti sauce made from scratch with crushed tomatoes, onions, garlic, and a blend of Italian herbs. Perfect for pairing with your favorite pasta, this sauce balances sweetness, acidity, and a hint of spice for a delicious, comforting meal.
Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and translucent. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
Pour in the crushed and diced tomatoes. Stir in the sugar, dried basil, oregano, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings as needed. If too acidic, add more sugar. Once the sauce reaches the desired consistency and flavor, remove it from the heat.
Serve the sauce over your favorite pasta, topped with fresh basil leaves and grated parmesan cheese.
Notes
For a richer sauce, add a splash of red wine during the simmering process.
