Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 4 medium-sized apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a food processor, pulse together flour and granulated sugar. Add the cold butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Press two-thirds of the crumb mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  • In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, and toss until evenly coated. Spread the apple mixture over the crust in the pan.
  • In a small saucepan, combine cornstarch and apple cider. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Pour the apple cider glaze over the apples. Crumble the remaining crumb mixture over the top.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly. Cool completely in the pan before slicing.

Notes

For extra crunch, consider adding chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans to the crumb topping.
