Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 package cream cheese softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 stick margarine softened
  • 1 container Cool Whip
  • 1 container chocolate icing
  • 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven as directed on the chocolate cake mix box.
  • Prepare the cake batter according to the box instructions.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch pan and bake as directed, usually 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
  • In a large bowl, mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and margarine until smooth. Fold in the Cool Whip gently.
  • Slice the cooled cake horizontally into two layers. Place the bottom half back in the pan, spread the filling evenly over it, and top with the second half.
  • Mix the chocolate icing with milk until smooth.
  • Spread the icing over the top of the cake evenly.
  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

For a different flavor, try using different types of cake mix or adding a layer of fresh fruit between the cake and cream filling.
