Ingredients
  

  • 9 cabbage leaves blanched
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion finely diced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • cheese of your choice optional topping
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 can tomato sauce 8 oz
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Blanch cabbage leaves in boiling water for 2 minutes until pliable. Drain and let cool.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, milk, egg, rice, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  • Place a cabbage leaf on a flat surface. Add filling to the center, fold in sides, and roll tightly. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.
  • Place rolls seam-side down in a baking dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk together brown sugar, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and lemon juice.
  • Pour sauce over cabbage rolls to coat evenly.
  • Cover dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Optional: remove foil, add cheese, and bake uncovered for 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm.

Notes

Try ground turkey or add chopped mushrooms for a leaner or vegetarian twist.
