  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 ripe bananas mashed
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts optional
  • For the Brown Butter Frosting:
  • ½ cup butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons milk plus more if needed

Instructions
 

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease and flour a 15x10-inch jelly roll pan or line with parchment paper.
  • Mix Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 ½ cups sugar, 1 cup sour cream, ½ cup softened butter, and 2 eggs until smooth. Blend in 4 mashed bananas and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
  • Add Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and ¾ teaspoon salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in ½ cup chopped walnuts, if using.
  • Bake Brownies: Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Prepare Frosting: In a saucepan, melt ½ cup butter over medium heat, cooking until it turns deep golden brown. Remove from heat and whisk in 4 cups powdered sugar, 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract, and 3 tablespoons milk until smooth. Adjust consistency with more milk if needed.
  • Frost Brownies: While the brownies are still warm, spread the brown butter frosting evenly over the top. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes
