Ingredients

  • 1 oz Coconut Rum (Malibu or a smooth Caribbean brand)
  • 1 oz Dark Rum (Myers’s or Gosling’s for rich depth)
  • 1 oz Light Rum (Bacardi or Plantation 3 Stars)
  • 2 oz Pineapple Juice (fresh-pressed or 100% juice carton)
  • 1 oz Orange Juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/2 oz Grenadine Syrup (homemade or quality store-bought)
  • as needed Ice Cubes
  • as needed Pineapple Wedge and Maraschino Cherry, for garnish

Instructions

  • Pop a hurricane or highball glass in the freezer for about 5 minutes—cold glass, crisp drink.
  • In a cocktail shaker, pour in coconut, dark, and light rums.
  • Measure in the pineapple and orange juices.
  • Fill the shaker three-quarters full with ice, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds.
  • Strain into your chilled glass over fresh ice. Drizzle grenadine slowly down a spoon’s back for a sunset gradient.
  • Skewer a pineapple wedge and cherry on a pick, perch it on the rim, and drop in a mint sprig if desired.

Notes

Look for 100% pineapple juice for the best taste. Squeeze oranges yourself for fresh zest. Shortcut homemade grenadine for the perfect rosy color.
