  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt fine sea salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 1/4 cups milk warm (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup water warm (110°F)

Instructions

  • Combine warm water and a pinch of sugar in a small bowl, sprinkle yeast on top, and let stand until foamy, about 5–10 minutes.
  • Whisk together bread flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl to ensure even seasoning.
  • Stir the yeast mixture, warm milk, and softened butter into the dry ingredients until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled, about 60 minutes.
  • Punch down dough, shape into a tight loaf, and place seam-side down in a greased 9×5-inch pan.
  • Cover and let dough rise until it peaks 1 inch above the pan, about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) while dough finishes its second rise.
  • Bake loaf for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 190°F (88°C).
  • Remove loaf from pan and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing for clean cuts.

Notes
